Visiting Amsterdam was one of the best vacations I have ever had. Myself, my husband, and some of our family and friends joined us as we stamped out passports and headed to Europe.
Visiting Amsterdam was the first time I traveled to Europe. While this is a fairly easy place to navigate as a first timer, I did want to share my experience and recommendations!
I am sure it is more appealing to travel to Amsterdam during the warm months of Summer, but one of the reasons we decided on visiting Amsterdam in March was the great deals we found. Round trip flights for $350!? YAS PLEASE! With that being said, if you decide on visiting Amsterdam in the winter months, be prepared for some cold weather. LAYERS… let me repeat myself, LAYERS! I will admit that it was bone chilling on some days, but nothing a beer in a local pub won’t fix!
As this was my first time visiting Amsterdam, I only have one recommendation for a hotel: The Alfred Hotel! This hotel was a great stay for our crew. It was in a convenient location and was a great price. I am embarrassed to say that it did take me a solid 7 minutes to figure out how to turn the shower on.
I highly recommend getting an I Amsterdam City Card. This card is great for your transportation needs, visiting museums, and other goodies! It’s super convenient to hop onto the tram
One of my favorite activities when visiting Amsterdam was our bike tour with Mike’s Bike Tours Amsterdam!
When we arrived for our tour, we picked out a bike and the tour guide asked who would like to be his wingman in the back to make sure everyone stayed together. My husband volunteered (what a guy!) and we headed out! I have to say that I felt more like a tourist during the bike tour than at any other time during our trip. Mostly because I was not familiar with the traffic right of ways in Amsterdam. A lot of the locals ride bikes, so I was definitely the newbie who got in some folks way. Whoops! Needless to say, it was incredible to be guided throughout the many historic parts of Amsterdam. While visiting Amsterdam, I highly recommend taking a bike tour with Mike’s Bike Tours so you can really adventure!
On our last night, the boat tour led us through the canals of Amsterdam.
As these photos seem a little dreary and lacking in that lush green color that summer brings, I truly loved visiting Amsterdam. I love the culture, the architecture, and the people.
