Let me start this off by saying Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park is truly a dream! When you add in Colbi & Anthony, it is absolute bliss.
I was first contacted by Colbi’s mother in the summer when she expressed interest that her daughter was getting married in October. Once Colbi said that they were coming in from Texas to do their engagement photos, I knew we had to go somewhere that really showed off just how awesome Colorado really is.
We decided to make the hike to Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. The name is quite fitting for this particular location. We had the entire lake to ourselves. So peaceful as I captured these two together. I’ve never seen a couple so playful and in love before. I truly believe God brought Colbi and Anthony into my life for a reason. I’m so grateful for them.
For a long time now, it has been on my photography bucket list to photograph a couple at the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Colorado. I knew when my sister in law, Faustina, told me she was getting married that she and her fiancé, Reece, would agree to make the trip to the Sand Dunes, especially because her dad (my father in law) only lives 45 minutes from there. We decided to make a weekend trip.
Things didn’t go as planned. When we arrived to the Sand Dunes, the wind speed was about 45 mph. I am not joking. It was crazy. Hectic. And as we don’t live anywhere close to the Sand Dunes, we had to get their engagement photos done that afternoon.
As the wind whirled on, grains of sand pierced into our ankles like sharp knives. We continued to hike up the dunes as all of us were determined to make the best of this.
The photos didn’t turn out quite like I had planned for them to. They were so much better.
The wind was still blowing when I finally decided to take my camera out (poor girl, she got beat up). The inclement weather also made it very loud so I wasn’t able to direct Faustina and Reece much during our session. But let me tell you, I think it made for the best photos. We hiked all around those dunes and I just kept snapping photos as we went. No direction, no posing, just adventuring.
And since it was a little crazy at the Sand Dunes, we decided to adventure a little bit into Embargo Creek the next day for even more photos! These are places that everyone living in Colorado should explore at some time in life. Quiet, secluded, natural beauty.
Alex & Lauren were married at the River Bend in Lyons, Colorado on July 15, 2017. It was a warm, summer day in the mountains of Colorado. A quiet creek nearby as guests sip on their drinks under the shade of the trees. Sounds nice, right? Well, don’t take my word for it, scroll down and have a look for yourself!
Lauren and her bridesmaids put the final touches on makeup and helped Lauren into her wedding dress in the glamping tent, while Alex and his groomsmen kept cool in the little cabin on the property. The lush green background was the perfect setting for Lauren and her bridesmaid’s blush pink dresses to be photographed. All of the details of the day were planned out so well and had the perfect backyard feel to go with the vibe of the venue!
Alex and Lauren decided not to do a first look and keep all of the emotion for the first walk down the aisle. The sweet exchange of vows next to the creek was the cherry on top of their day.
After the sweet exchanging of vows, the cocktail hour was held right outside of the big white tent (everyone love’s a big white tent wedding, am I right!?) where the reception took place. The bar for the evening was at the base of a very large evergreen tree. This place was magical, you guys!
Later, Lauren & Alex enjoyed dancing under the strings lights with their family and friends surrounding them.
